Ramat Shalom’s Online Passover Song Sheet – 2020

  1. Afikomen Song

I’m over here come find me. I’m hiding in the books.
I see you getting closer, but I can’t get you to look.
You do not seem to see me, but I’m lookin’ right at you.
I am the Afikomen, and hiding’s what I do.
Someone takes the middle matza, and they break it into two.
I become one half of it, and I am hidden far from you.
They wrap me in a napkin, so I don’t get crumbs around.
And then they buy me back, after I’ve been found.
I’m over here I’m hiding. You’ll find me if you try.
I see you getting closer, but then you walk right by.
You do not seem to see me, but I’m lookin’ right at you.
I am the Afikomen, and hiding’s what I do. (2x)

  1. The Ballad of the Four Sons

Said the father to the children, at the seder you will dine
You will eat your fill of matza, you will drink four cups of wine.

Now this father had no daughters, but his sons they numbered four
One was wise and one was wicked, one was simple and a bore.

And the fourth was sweet and winsome, he was young, and he was small
While his brothers asked the questions, he could scarcely speak at all.

Said the wise son to his father, would you please explain the laws
Of the customs of the seder, will you please explain the cause.

And the father proudly answered, as our fathers at in speed,
Ate the paschal lamb ‘ere midnight and from slavery were freed.

So we follow their example and ‘ere midnight must complete
All the seder, and we should not after twelve remain to eat.

Then did sneer the son so wicked, what does all this mean to you?
And the father’s voice was bitter as his grief and anger grew.

If yourself you don’t consider as a son of Yisrael
Then for you this has no meaning, you could be a slave as well.

Then the simple son said simply, what is this, and quietly
The good father told his offspring, we were freed from slavery.

But the youngest son was silent, for he could not speak at all,
His bright eyes were bright with wonder, as his father told him all.

So dear children, heed the lesson and remember evermore
What the father told his children, told his sons that numbered four.

  1. Let My People Go

When Israel was in Egypt land, let my people go.
Oppressed so hard, they could not stand, let my people go.
Go down Moses, way down in Egypt land.
Tell ole Pharoah to let my people go!
The Lord told Moses what to do, let my people go.
Lead the children of Israel through, let my people go. (chorus)
And when they reached the other shore, let my people go.
They sang a song of triumph for, let my people. (chorus)

  1. The 10 Plagues – melody by Harry Belafonte
Pharoah, me say Pharoah! The plagues are comin’ and I wanna go home.
1st the water it turned to blood
2nd are the frogs jumpin’ in the mud
3rd the lice crawlin’ in my hair
4th the beasts roamin’ everywhere (chorus)
5th are the cattle dyin’ one by one
6th are the boils which are no fun
7th is the hail comin’ down like rain
8th are the locusts eatin’ all the grain (chorus)
9th is the darkness all across the sky
10th is seein’ your first born die (chorus)
